Pacific Plaza: Abu Sayyaf member ‘security guard’ arrested diplomats raise alarm

In a week that where the death Osama Bin Laden, a mile from Pakistan’s military academy, the world’s most wanted terrorist which raised security concerns over how a top terrorist could have been in a Pakistani military township. In the Philippines, a terrorist was guarding a building where Ameircan, European, and Asian diplomats lived many with their families in a posh heavily-guarded secure condominum.

Another, albeit much lower ranking foot soldier of Al Qaeda, “suspect, Arabani Jakiran, was arrested Thursday at the Pacific Plaza Tower in an upscale part of metropolitian Manila,” a report used by the Fox News channel reported.

‘The Fort district’, Pacific Plaza towers  building, is walking distance from the American cemetary, in Philippine capitol city of Metro Manila – home to the headquarters of the Philippine Army, Navy, and Marines. Authorities are being asked by diplomats and members of the business community how a wanted terrorist could have become an armed uniformed guard at all. Let alone in such a sensitive location. Embassy security personel have moved members of their diplomatic staffs out the building from at least five countries.

A senior diplomatic source also noted that as a guard, he may have access to the building car park, roof deck, mail, and telephone system.

Officials are investigating and promise a full nivestigation into the incident, which comes as hundred Filipino Muslims staged a protest at the US Embassy in Manila.

The arrest of Arabani Jakiran, a member of the notorious Al Qeada-backed Abu SaYaf group, opens new worries in the Philippine capitol after authorities learned where he worked. As a doorman-securty guard with access to mail, telephone lines, and units of dozens of the American diplomats and securiy officials.

Manila American Cemetery is located in the Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila, within the boundaries of the former Fort William McKinley.

The area is a brand new modern city built out of a former Philippine Army camp and military headquarters of Fort Bonifacio and a short distance away from the US Ambassador’s residence.

The Fort is a expansion area for the country’s financial capitol of Makati.

Ironically, Arabani Jakiranm came to work everyday across from a memorial to American war dead from the Second World War and a US government property of the former Fort.

The Manila Battlement monument is a U.S.  government-owned consular property that is open to the public, left in the former U.S.  Commonwealth of the Philippine Islands.
