President Benigno S. Aquino III led on Wednesday the Globe Telecom network modernization program launching in Malacanang assuring investors of a level playing field to enable every Filipino to live a dignified life. In his message during the launching and contract signing for Globe Telecom, the President echoed his administration’s stance against law breakers saying the government will punish wrongdoers and reward those following the rules.

“We are putting in place a level playing field where those who follow the rules are rewarded and those who break the law are punished hopefully sooner rather than later. We are creating opportunities so that every Filipino could live a dignified life,” the President said. The Chief Executive said his administration agrees with the Globe guiding principle of making great things possible.

“In many ways my goals for the country is the same: to make great things possible for every Filipino. This is a philosophy behind our thrust towards inclusive growth. We want companies to grow not just so that investors could rake in profits but so that jobs would be available too,” he said. According to the President, he wants business to come so that the income generated by government could be spent for social services such as in healthcare, education, disaster relief, community development and poverty reduction.

The government knows how to achieve these goals, the President said adding that his administration ensures that it invests peoples’ money where it should rightfully go. He noted that Filipinos must know that the current Philippine society is just where the achievement of dreams is possible through hard work and those in the margins will have the same chances to advance in life as those in power.

Referring to Wednesday’s launching and contract signing, President Aquino acknowledged that a healthy telecommunication leads to a healthy economy that would ultimately create more jobs and opportunities for the people.

He also thanked Globe Telecom and its partners for putting their investments in the Philippines adding that Globe’s expansions only signifies investors confidence for the Philippines.

Globe Telecom sealed a deal with Huawei for a $700-million Massive Mobile Network Modernization program to be rolled out nationwide within the next five years with Alcatel-Lucent managing the project.

The modernization program, considered as the most significant Globe Telecom investment in the last two decades, includes an all-IP infrastructure, pervasive 3D coverage, double fiber optics capacity, 4D and LTE readiness, and overall quality and resiliency.Globe, owned by Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecom, is pouring in at least $570 million of the total investments this year until 2013, according to the project proponents.

Once completed, Globe Telecom envisions a robust network that can provide unparalleled customer experience that will set the company apart from other competitors.

With the better system, customers can expect improved call quality under pervasive 3G coverage, rare dropped calls, and instantaneous SMS delivery as well as fast Internet access. Among Globe’s products and services include mobile, fixed, broadband, data connections, Internet and managed services.

Also present during the event were Transportation and Communication Secretary Mar Roxas, Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu, interim Huawei CEO Eric Xu, and Alcatel-Lucent president Rajeev Singh-Molares.
