Amidst OFW crisis: Glass houses, Porshes, and Lamborginis
Posted on 04 March 2011 by mikeinmanila
“Well at least it’s not THE Bugatti,” was a line remembered at meeting of men in white barongs who laughed aloud albeit nervously – reacting to text messages, tweets, and, blog posts on alleged excesses of some very powerful people in power. It is not flattering; Say’s a hard working gov’t official; “Those rumor mongering are just trying to throw mud on a leadership that remains in highest regard by its people.”
One rumor ugly involved an accusation that the executive secretary of President Aquino; which was quickly quashed by the palace in a press release that covers the topic best.
[]… Report shows multi-million house not owned by Ochoa – Lacierda
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda dismissed on Thursday a news report ascribing ownership of a P40-million residential house to Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr., saying the Palace official had nothing to do with the property. “The ABS-CBN report is very clear. It’s not registered in his name,” Lacierda told a press briefing in Malacañang.
“Let me state that as far as the ES is concerned, the property is not in his name. It’s not registered in his name and therefore there is no reason why the property should be listed under his SALN (statement of assets, liabilities and net worth),” Lacierda pointed out. “He has nothing to do with that property,” Lacierda added… []
Cars; well on this point I can’t see the logic of it – except perhaps on the supposed vow of poverty that public officials are almost required to live by on ostentatious display of wealth.
But; excuse me – The current President has one distinction he is one of the country’s richest eligible bachelors whose landed family can develop should they choose too their own mid-sized city if they wanted to in Central Luzon.
Like the movie coming to America; the line ‘He’s got his own money…” comes to mind – and he earned it the in one of the oldest ways – he inherited it.
He also served as management for a diverse set of agricultural companies who can almost literally can grow money if needed.
His Porsche has been an issue of several blogs – now in text messages flowing out there – are rumors of Lamborgini and a Ferrari.
Like the men at the Makati diner I was at said it best -
“He is a rich man, people forget that too often.” and big boys go for the best toys. I wouldn’t be surprised one other person there said that the reported purchase of a Maybach ‘Presidential limo’ for a customer in the Philippines set to be delivered is true. It may not even be for anyone in government. But, because its a ‘head of state’ armored model people talk.
If this all the critics and rumor mongers can bring up then it shouldn’t be a surprise if they also take up the allegations of a lack cabinet meetings in full too.
Some say this weeks was only the second full conference held since this administration came into being.
Most meetings in person are now often held virtually; video conferencing, online or using phone systems as well as speaker phones. One thing it saves gas; second it allows for less chances that traffic gets worse.

While personal interaction in important in most business or government agencies. It’s often quicker to meet by Skype or yahoo or facetime or google chat.
Sometimes the less people meet the more meaningful it is in person? Others say – although I find that a stretch.
There has been a lot innuendo and rumors on many topics.
But, with the exception of the Taiwan issue – which in a nutshell goes like this. How do you deport someone to a place that technically a country – isn’t supposed to be in official contact with another. See, like most of the world the PH recognizes only one China. As well as accepting the status of a ‘renegade’ province that is the global view of Taiwan. Harsh as it may be; China is to the UN. USA, EU, and ASEAN – the only official China.
Hence; as in the movie line – ‘there can be only one’; legally interacted with unless specific protocols are made to handle the situation.
Taiwan has those with Japan, the USA, and other nations to deal with situations like these. Perhaps it’s time a stonger MECCO office is set up and this worked out so problems of this sort don’t happen anew.
This week also saw the much predicted problems of the growing OFW crisis in Libya. There are over 25,000 workers there from the Philippines by most estimates half that number have departed.
Here’s the official list of who left:

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
Recently I did a search on the issue and found a great number of persons will agree with your blog;2
Keep the faith, my Internet friend, You are a first-class writer and deserve to be heard.
I think youve got something good here. But what if you make a couple links to a page that backs up what youre saying? Or maybe you could give us something to look at, I could revisit & read more sometime soon,2
I am almost sure this subject matter was seen on 60 minutes.
Very good page.
To the poster who blathered about the Tea Party agenda, as if everybody agreed it was a problem, please consider this viewpoint. And about 10 more from different angles.
I’ve been looking to advise you, you’re right on. I came 2 this article from another engine and am really interested in this niche and learning about this. Do you mind if I link to this post from my mailing list?
There are tons of websites that simply make useless information, but yours are different , I am so happy to read your post;2
[...] … great article. Trackback from … [...]

I like you article, thank you very much!
[]… Yeah – you people that don’t believe everything that Obama says about the Wars, politics and financial state are all Racists! You want actual proof that OBL appeared to be killed? How racist of you, you are just saying that because he is black. So what if Obama and his “transparent govt policies” procured two full years to cough up a Birth Certificate? Accept everything Lord Obama informs you or you are a racist Tea Party that hates America and the Troops. …[]
Zero points for originality – less points for style – since this seems to be spam… I think i’ll look at where its origins came from.
I think someone needs a nap, you’re barking up the wrong tree with this comment – I hate spammers like this – who don’t even bother to read the topic and just post. Natalie if you really exist and this isn’t some weird form of an SEO spam. I fully intend to check out who is behind this!
